Hey Students Welcome to my chillll site where you can learn about the news. If you wanted to know what were the most important thing in the news, this is where you would go. At the moment I am working on a story involving the Afgahn rebels who are fighting the Taliban in the North of their country. I hope that you are all intrested in this cool storyt and that you will read it. There is a quiz and it would be cool if you would like to take it. Please do! We are doing the pros and con of the deatrh penalty and the lattest exicution in New Mexico. Before September 11, the northern Alliance fighting against the Taliban in thge North of the country was virtually unkown. However, ever since the attack on the Us and the talks of invading Afgahnistan, the Northern Alliances struggle has come into the American main stream. These people may and most likely will be a main component of the U.S. attack if they do decide to invade Afgahnistan. The Rebels control about 10-15% of the country and have been fighting the Taliban ever since the radical Taliban government took over the country soon after the russians were repulsed from the counrty. The Taliban have been giving up almost no grond for about 10 years now but in light of the attacks on Afgahnistan th rebels have begun to gain groud on the Taliban forces. The rebels have been gaing ground consistantly on the Taliban forces in the North. They have just gotten a promise from the russian to aid them by giving them spplies, weapons and inteligence. The United States has been bombing many sites that are near the front lines of the Taliban and rebel fighting. The Taliban are now poised to take a key city in northern Afgahnistan. If they are able to take possesion of this city, the rebels will be able to cut off a main supply line to the Taliban forces. They couyld also use the city as a main base for U.S troops to enter the country. The city is close to the boreder to UZbekistan where the U.S has been stockpiling troops and supples ever since the bombing began. The rebels have also said that they couldf addvance on the capital Kabul in the next two weeks. The main foe that the rebels have been fighting is called the 55th Birgade. This is a vetern fighting force that is composed of vetern fighter of Afgahn and other muslim origins. Many of thge members are said to also be members of Bin Ladens terrorist AL Queda and are one of the many ways that Bin Laden maintains his firm grip on the Taliban regime. These fighters were the main group of Taliban fighters who took the country by force ten years ago. These men are considered a symbol of Taliban power and fighting force in Afgahnistan, and to have the regime crumble the regiment would have to be destroyed. Most of the fighters are rumored to fight to the death because if they lose Afgahnistan they have no where to go. The Rebels fight with ancient wepons left over from their last conflict, which was with the Soviets. They also have some arms that the United States gave thm when they were training Afgahn soldiers to fight aginst the advace of the Soviet Union. Now, during the 1990s, the Rebels are being supplied with semi-modern wepons by the sviet Union But know in light of he terorst attack, the Soviet Union has promised to up its wepons and arms suport to the Northern Alliace. The Northern Allince leaders know hope that wth thiS added boost of arms, they will be able to take back the territoy from the Taliban. There are concerns among some commanders in the Northern Alliance that perhaps the U.S. is listening closer to Pakistan, whic has been warning that the Northern Alliance might take advantage of the situation -- take power in Kabul and perhaps ignore some of the riots of the Pashtun population of the south. That Pashtun population is ethnically linked to the Pakistanis. The reason the commanders of he Norther alliance are concerned is becase the government Pakistani supported various factions five years ago, when the Northern Alliance was driven out during factional fighting and the Taliban took over. However, there's international pressure for the Northern Alliance to combine with other Afghan groups, perhaps under the exiled king in Rome, to form what could be a stable government that would replace the Taliban. The Northern Allianc now hops to be able to capitalize on the strikes byte United States on the Taibamn posiion in th North by moving closer to the strategic northern town of Mazar-e-Sharif. The Alliance comandrs hae ben inspired by the sounds of the air stikes and ar now energized more than ever. Since the 1st day of air strkies the Alliance has been moving stedily toward Mazar-e-Sharif and are now 5 kilometers fom the ciy. However the have had to dal with an ofensive attack by the Taliban forces that force them back away from the town. That city's airport has been pounded by U.S.-led airstrikes in the past few days. The Northern Alliance is hoping to capitalize on that by taking back the airfield and using it as a baso of operaions for the assult on Mazar-e-Sharif. They also say they have taken some 20 Taliban fighters prisoner and killed 10 others. They are also reporting that hundreds of other Taliban fighters, have defected to the other side. The city of Mazar-e-sharif is crucial to both sides in this conflict and who ever takes control over it will have a signifigant advantage on the other. The Taliban need this city to use as a base of operations and it is cruical for them to have this city to use as a supply base. This city is a stop forthe supply line that feeds and supplies all the troops, with food, amunition and clothing. The rebels want to be able to cut off the supplies of the Taliban, and this city is so close to the Uzbekistan boareder that the United STates could use it to put men into the country. The Northern Alliance is crucial to the United States Victory in Afgahnistan and we must help them to ubtain victoy. This will be crucial alliance in the ground war to come. If the United States an the Northern Alliance work togther they should be able to win this war and do it quickly. The death penalty has been debte upon since it came into American main stream. Since then there has been constant whinning about how terrible and in-humane it is. Poeple actually feel sorry for person who has killed another individual. Someone who took the life of anothe, and in most cases did it bruttally. And people out there say we should jut forgive and forget? Can a victim of one of these men just come back and say, "Oh its ok death dosen't last long, Im over it". I dont think so. These peole have chosen their fate and know must live with the consequences of their actions. Pople have been talking about how cruel this punishment is. Actually, in my opinion, the killers are getting off easy. They do no have to experience the fear a 5 year old girl feels when she id kidapped from her parents, raped and then murdered. They have a set time for their execution and know what is coming, unlike their law abiding, goal orriented victims who wanted nothing more than just to live in peace. But these people shattered hundreds of lives and still people feel sorry. Granted some remorse should be giv but these people are put down easily. Unlike thier victims who were stabe or shot or beaten, these men only feel a prick and soon after hey are off to meet their creator. I think this is some of the only sound justice we have left. When these men committed these acts they must have known that some consoquence would arise and they would be punished, so in short they sealed their own fates. There is hardly any justification, save self defense for murder in urban living, however these people find justificaion, and you beleive that these people should be allowed even a few of the small joys that theyhavedeprived their victims of. People talk about how these people on death ro are changed, but the soe fact rmains that they took a human lifand should have to paythe consequence no matter how much they hve changed. They took a life that was full of possibility and know want to be forgive. No one on earth can give this kind of forgivness and know one should try to. This is somthing that should be left alone and not metteled with. The death penelty is a small pay-back for what a person did to their victim. Even thought a life is being lost, it still has small justification. We must remember that this is not so much carried out in hate as it is for justice.
