Classroom Rules: 1) Respect others. This includes property, opinions, and the right to teach, learn, and grow. Always feel free to express thoughts, ideas, and opinions, but do so in a manner that maintains a healthy classroom environment. 2) Come to class prepared and on time. 3) Participate. Class is your opportunity to learn. Take advantage by completing assignments and taking part in classroom activities. Consequences: First Offense: Warning Second Offense: Meeting with instructor Third Offense: Phone call and behavior contract Fourth Offense: Removal from class Attendance: Absences: Classroom attendance is required. If your absence is unexcused, you forfeit all opportunities for that class period and will receive no credit for assignments missed. If your absence is excused, it is your responsibility to personally obtain and complete assignments missed. Assignments are still due on or before the due dates given to the rest of the class. If you have conflicts with any of these guidelines, set up a time to discuss the matter with your instructor. Tardies: You are tardy if you are not in the classroom and in your seat when the bell rings. You are tardy if the bell rings and you continue to take part in activities and discussions that are not related to class. (This means class starts when the bell rings) Hall Passes: Each student will receive 3 hall passes per semester. They are to be requested only at an appropriate time. Grading: Tests: Each unit will conclude with a test. Tests will account for roughly 40% of your grade. If you do not receive a passing grade (70%) on your test, you may retake the exam until you get a 70% or higher. After passing the exam, a 70% will be marked as your grade for that exam. Any tests that are not passed and not retaken will result in a zero in the grade book. Quizzes: Quizzes will acount for roughly 20% of your grade. These are an easy stepping stone to prepare for exams. Quizzes will be taken on line and will come from materials covered in class and in the text book. Each quiz can only be taken once. Feel free to use your book and notes when taking quizzes. By simply coming to class and doing the reading, the quizzes are easy ways to boost your grade and prepare for exams. Homework: Homework will account for 20% of your final grade. This could be a variety of assignments from free writing to answering questions. Projects: You will have one or two projects that will acount for 10% of your final grade. They will be presented and explained by the instructor. Attendace & Participation: Attendance and participation will account for 10% of your grade. Coming to class and taking part in thinking and talking about materials is a major factor in learning about how and why things happen. These points will be given at the instructors discresion. They will be awarded for simply coming to class and participating in discussions and activities. Grades: Scale: 97-100% A+ 94-96% A 91-93% A- 87-90% B+ 83-86% B 80-82% B- 70-79% C 60-69% D Below 60% F Due Dates: Due dates will be given for each assignment.
