Hello. I have not updated my page for a while because I do not believe very many parents take the time to read it. I would like to ask you to send me an email if you do read this. Instead of the address give to you, please email me at barbarag@wf.quik.com. I normally check that email account daily. When I was going to update this page today, I discovered that QUIA will begin to charge a fee to use their site as of February 25. I have not heard anyone at school mention this, so I do not know if the school plans to fund this yearly fee. If not, I will probably discontinue communication with the Internet and will rely on the weekly report or school newsletters. I am interested in hearing your thoughts and feelings on this. February has turned out to be a busy month with many special holidays and events. We will continue learning about good dental hygiene next week. Also, the children will learn more about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. There is a unit I love to do during Black History Month by teaching about George Washington Carver and his genius and creative contributions to Americans. You may remember that he was the one who discovered many uses and recipes with the peanut. I am hopeful that we will be able to study George Washington Carver this month. The First Grade PTA program will be on March 14th. The theme will be Dinosaurs so the children will be learning about dinosaurs in science. We are in need of a couple of parents or grandparents who can sew and are willing to make a few little simple costumes for a few children to use in the program. Please contact me or one of the other first grade teachers if you or someone you know can help with this project. In math the children are having a good time with geometry. Next week they will learn about fractions. This is sometimes difficult for some children. Be sure to check your child's daily work and go over it with him/her. The students had a terrific time at the Valentine Party on the 14th. Their excitement was nearly deafening at times. I was quite pleased when, as they opened their little cards, I heard many say "thank you" to the ones who had given them valentines. They are sweet dear children. I am grateful to Angela Wegmann, Risa Hillard, and the other parents who helped with the party. If there is anything you need to discuss with me, please contact me. I appreciate your help and involvement in the education of your child. Barbara Gar
