Starting on September 17th, 2002, each Monday from 5:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. will feature a free presentation on either an open source technology industry or an e-learning sector trend. Presenters will be leaders from local e-learning companies and software developers involved with open source development. They will provide a brief overview of their company although the presentation will focus on industry and career trends. This is an excellent opportunity to network and to learn more about industry trends and local initiatives. From 5:45 - 6:00 p.m. there will be an optional brief overview of the Century College / Zoom e-Learning Networks e-Learning and Open Source Technology programs. Beginner
Series:
e-Learning, Technology and Open Source Development
This
hands-on course provides an overview of the foundational XML technologies such
as building an XML document, and integrating Namespaces, XSL, DTD, and XML
Schema. No prerequisite although a basic familiarity with computers is helpful.
This course is intended for the novice or business person interested in knowing
the basics of XML as well as for more experienced developers wishing to gain a
foundation in XML and help them determine aspects of XML that are useful for

Introduction to Computers and the Internet
This course
provides an overview of computers and the Internet and is intended for the
beginner with little or no previous computer experience. This hands-on course
is taught in a non-intimidating manner and will help participants gain
confidence in computer and Internet use and help prepare them for potential

This
course provides an overview of computers and the Internet, covering key trends
and technologies. The focus is on hands-on exercises and helping ESL students
learn the key terminology. This course is intended for ESL students. No

This
course is intended for teachers, trainers, or other educators that would like
to learn more about integrating technology into their classroom. A general
overview of e-learning trends, tools, and technologies is providing along with

This
course will focus on e-learning and web development career opportunities, with
a focus on obtaining employment in British Columbia. The course will also
provide hands-on exercises in helping participants discover their optimal

Introduction to Open Source Web Development
& System Administration
This
course provides an overview of open source web development and system
administration covering key topics such as open source approach to development,
licensing terms, open source community, and key technologies such as Linux,
MySQL, and PHP. This is intended for participants with at least a basic level
of computer understanding, although it is appropriate for the novice developer
as well as experience developers wishing to learn more about the open source
